DC Gore annoncerer debutalbummet All These Things – ude d. 29. juli
Efter at have udgivet en række artpop singler, kan DC Gore i dag annoncere udgivelsen af sit debutalbum All These Things, der udkommer d. 29. juli på Domino / Playground Music. Sammen med annonceringen udgiver DC Gore sin seneste single, kærlighedssangen ’I Like You’.
’I Like You’ er en romantisk synth-pop banger, der er mixet af Alexis Smith (Speedy Underground), mastereret af Heba Kadry (Cate Le Bon, Lucy Dacus) og indspillet med det tidligere bandmedlem Lawrence Hart. Lyt til sangen og se den tilhørende video her.
Videoen, der er inspireret af William Goldings debutnovelle ’Lord of the Flies’, viser Gore som gruppens ’Ralph’, som leder en gruppe af horn-spillende børn mens de samler resterne af deres nedstyrtede fly, op.
“A few years ago I came across Tish Murtha's photos of juvenile jazz bands in 1970s Newcastle and just fell in love with them,” siger DC Gore. “That the joy and release of music can fulfil such a positive societal function reminded me of the hope and longing for grace at the heart of the song, that even with all the cynicism there is something magical there too.”
Efter at have opløst London-trioen Little Cub, har DC Gore gentænk bandets elektroniske synthpop ind i sit eget solomusik. All These Things fremlægger dystopiske billeder mod en baggrund af elektroniske og fremdrivende beats.
“All These Things is a bookend to a torrid period in my life,” fortæller Gore. “There are so many themes in there of failure and frustration (personal and political), shame and longing, but in the end, there is a hope to it. All these things that feel so all-consuming at the time become quotidian in the wake of a global pandemic.”
Inspireret af det unuancerede portræt af Martin Parr, Jarvis Cockers snuskede vittigheder og Neil Tennants art-pop kommentarer, placerer Gores musik sig stolt i en rig tradition af udprægede britiske forstyrrere. Gore, der forvrider forestillinger om national identitet med en levende blanding af skarp satire i en ekspansiv palette af syntetiserende new wave art-rock, formår ubesværet af skabe sange, som er lige så sindrige som de er dansevenlige.
