Joe Goddard arbejder med sin intuition på sit tredje album – Harmonics er ude d. 12/7
Joe Goddard har tænkt over det at tænke! Igennem de seneste år har den britiske producer og sangskriver arbejdet på at komme mere i kontakt med sin intuition:
“This idea of trying to divorce your conscious mind from the music-making process – not trying to force meaning on the music or your collaborators, allowing that process to be very empathetic.”
Resultatet er mundet ud i Goddards tredje soloalbum Harmonics, der udkommer d. 12. juli 2024 på Domino / Playground Music. På albummets 14 tracks – inspireret af genrer som UK garage, house, hip hop, pop og disko – byder Joe Goddard en række samarbejdspartnere op til dans: Eno Williams fra Ibibio Sound Machine låner sin stemme ud på ’Progress’, ’When Love’s Out of Fashion’ indeholder en feature fra den britiske rapper Oranje, tidligere frontmand i Wild Beast, Hayden Thorpe, medvirker på ’Summon’ og Goddards med-bandmedlemmer fra Hot Chip, Alexis Taylor og Al Doyle, medvirker begge på ’Heal Your Mind’.
Andre gæster på albummet inkluderer Tom McFarland fra Jungle, Fiorious, som medvirker på den seneste single ’New World (Flow)’, sangeren Falle Nioke fra Guinea samt den britiske jazzmusiker Alabaster DePlume.
Selvom Joe Goddard har mange samarbejdspartnere med på sit kommende album, er der også blevet plads til et par solosange, såsom ’Follow Me’. Han fortæller:
“With all the different people on this record, I’ve been working on how to respect the contribution they make and not trying to be the one who has to lead everything. That follows through into the songs where I’m singing. I tried to write words without having too much of an idea of what I’m trying to express, where I’m just writing a stream of consciousness.”
Sammen med annonceringen af Harmonics udgiver Joe Goddard albummets åbningstrack ’Moments Die’ featuring lækre vokaler fra Brooklyn-sangeren Barrie. Om sangen fortæller Goddard:
“My new single ‘Moments Die’ features a beautiful vocal contribution from my friend Barrie which for me is a highlight of my forthcoming album. My words were inspired by John Berger’s book ‘And Our Faces, My Heart, Brief as Photos’.”
’Moments Die’ kommer med en tilhørende video, instrueret af Nathan Castiel, som kan ses her.
