The reality we experience is a mere creation of our consciousness, but our consciousness creates this reality based on those very same experiences. We are simultaneously the creators of our personal universe and creations of our personal universe. The Earth side of this album represents the world as I see it outwardly, the world that I am a part of. Kamasi Washington er klar med sit længeventede andet album Heaven & Earth, som udkommer den 22. juni på Young Turks / Playground Music i Skandinavien. Samtidig med annonceringen af albummet, deler Kamasi Washington de første sange fra albummet - hør Earths ’Fists of Fury’ HER og Heavens ’The Space Travelers Lullaby’ HER.
Den længeventede opfølger til The Epic fra 2015 er delt op i to dele Heaven og Earth, hvor Washington både udforsker kosmiske temaer samt verdens nuværende kaos.
’Fists of Fury’ og ’The Space Travelers Lullaby’ kommer sammen med billeder fra den roste britiske artist og instruktør Jenn Nkiru. Den visuelle kontekst er inspireret af et kollaborativt Heaven & Earth filmprojekt, som udkommer senere på året.
Heaven & Earth er indspillet af Kamasi Washington med sit faste band The Next Step samt medlemmer af kollektivet The West Coast Get Down i Henson Studio i Los Angeles. Musikken er skrevet, komponeret og arrangeret af Washington tilført nye arrangementer af bebop-legenden Freddie Hubbards ”Hubtones” samt det ikoniske kung-fu-filmtema ”Fists of Fury”.
Kamasi Washington og orkester gæster i sommeren 2018 København to gange, hvor de spiller i henholdsvis Pumpehuset den 3. juni og på Haven Festival den 10. august.
